Are Pro Drummer's rich?

There's plenty of density in this room man, wow.
A million dollars in this day and age is upper middle class. Especially in LA and NYC.
Here are players I know for a fact are banking over a million in total assets:

Shawn Pelton
Anton Fig
Marvin Smitty Smith
Jerry Marotta
Dom Famularo
Vinnie Cola
Ricky Lawson
Peter Erskine
Terry Lynn
Cyndi Blackman
Gadd
Charlie Drayton
Jeff Porcaro( did)
Jim Keltner
Kenny Aronoff

Don't forget, most of these people own their homes in sometimes more than one major city. You can't buy a nice house in NYC or LA in a decent area for under 700,000.
I heard on some tours new comers like Hass and Sanchez charge 1g a day. Not per show. Everyday they are on the road whether it be flying bussing or playing. Big name drummers get paid perday not per gig. Come one. Wake up. Vinnie has been rich since 1985.

and.....we can't forget the highest paid touring drummer.

My buddy works for PetCo...an ex-drummer who had it with the "biz" and with a wife and two kids owns a home and his two cars. He can afford to work a mindless day job because he owns his home, only paying annual taxes.

Flarobstix is right, it is insane how much the price of a home costs in LA. Better to move to Nashville and live in a nearby area when you can buy a home (2100 sq ft)for under 200K.

The only drummers making stacks of cash are those who have managed to secure a piece of the publishing for POPULAR recordings they were involved with. If you think you can become uber-wealthy just as a session player, you've smoked too much crack my friend.

The publishing thing is the deal if you want to become a wealthy drummer! get started writing some lyrics that will conquer airplay.

My guess would be that Phil Collins is probably one of the richest respective drummers around [img]smile.gif[/img]

How much my favorites drummers are earning, are really not something of great concern, and should honestly belong to some tabloid thing.

But I'm glad that they're able to make a living out of what they're doing, so they can keep us happy [img]smile.gif[/img]

But a well planned economy, could make a good Gig'in year worth alot more than that.

Becomming an attractive Educator is also a great way to earn good money in the daytime. It also makes the life of pro-drumming more Scheduled.

Several years ago the Dave Weckl band ended their tour in my town. I gave Dave and the band a ride to the airport the day after their last gig. I remember Dave telling me that he had lost money on the tour. I also asked him if touring effected his recording career and he said ?what recording career" ?. he went on to say that the recording industry had really slowed down due to machines & programmers, and that he really wasn't into that scene anymore.

I also remember Jonathan Moffat telling me Madonna had him on retainer for 18K a month just to be available in case she needed him for gigs. That doesn?t include the tours etc?.

I pretty sure JD Blair has a similar retainer with Shania Twain to keep him available between tours.

Weckle even in his prime, didn't do a ton of sessions. And I wasn't saying these drummers make that $$ only from sessions. They tour. And touring with an established act pays very well. For an average great young player like Carlock, it payed him around $7,000 a week. He was out for 2 years! Do the math.
The drummers I mentioned ARE MILLIONAIRES. It's amazing that you're all drummers yet some are so clueless business wise. Sorry to speak the truth.
You can't live comfortably, drive a nice car or two, in NYC or LA, and not be worth at least a million. IN NYC a 2 bedroom box is worth 700g's. If you own your house in LA or NYC you're already worth that. Let's not be stupid. I know drummers always get that rap. But wake up. Why bother arguing, you're wrong.
These guys make a great living. Anyone at the top of their field makes a great living. Even a top plummer in these cities makes over a mill a year. HA!
Omar broke the money barrier when he got the Madonna gig. First drummer to ever make I believe it was $10.000 a week back then. I believe he still charges the highest fee. He also sings and drummers that sing backrounds earn more.
All you have to do is some research and logical addition. Simon Phillips has 4 Ferrari's and some other exotic cars. He's a drummer, and a millionaire. There are tons of them! Wake up.

Shawn Pelton is a millionaire as well.
He owns a flat in a Greenwhich village. They start around at a million. He makes about 3-4g's a week with SNL, and only does that gig for 10weeks. He tours with big name rock artists. He does more sessions than Vinnie and Kenny Aronoff combined. He also get's paid everytime SNL runs in syndication. He charges around 3grand per clinic.
He has no publishing, he doesn't write. He plays the drums, period. And who knows what kind of money these musicians have in stocks and other ventures.
Anton Fig, has a house in the Hamptons!!! And in Manhattan. He's worth several million. He plays the drums.
Flarobstix is only guy in here who's making financial sense. Sounds like some of you are actually pissed that people can do this by playing drums. They can, and they do.
What's so hard to understand?
Rob you forgot Sammy Merendino, and Rick Marotta. They both own large studios and houses in NYC. Can't do that without at least a million bucks.
